Can I Convert My Account for QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?
Can I Convert My Account for QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?
This article explains why you cannot convert a Method:CRM Desktop account to a Method:CRM for QuickBooks Online account.
Updated over a week ago

As people look to transition to the cloud, we have been receiving inquiries asking how easy it would be to migrate their Method account with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) over to a Method account with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to convert your accounts over in Method.

There are a few reasons why this would be difficult, including but not restricted to:

  • Incompatible features - QBO differs from QBDT in regards to features and functionality. For example, QBO has no sales order transactions, nor Sales Reps. Furthermore, there are differences between the QBO and QBDT databases and how Method:CRM communicates with both of them.

  • Complicated relationships - If you were to export your data in QBDT, each table would be exported separately. On import, however, there is no easy to way to relate all the data in the tables back to each other. This would need to be a manual process which would be time consuming.

  • Customizations are not automatically moved to new account - Although Method can copy customizations from one account to another, this is a manual and time intensive task. On top of that, further customization may be required to account for differences between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

For more information, please see QuickBooks article What data doesn't convert from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?

Having said that, we do offer service options to migrate the following:

  • Method on QBDT → Method on QBDT

  • Method on QBDT → Method on QBO.

  • Method on QBO → Method on QBO

Please reach out to your success manager to book a time to discuss the possibilities.
