Method AI is the assistant built into Method. It works in three places, and each one behaves a little differently.

The process that drives a screens functionality are done with actions. Within the action editor itself, Method's AI can explain and update components actions.

Two modes: Ask vs Build

When interacting with the chat, there will be a dropdown which can switch between two modes: Ask and Build.

  • Build - Makes the change you describe. Build is where the panel starts. Check the screen or the list of steps afterwards.

  • Ask - Explains the screen or action set in front of you and changes nothing. Switch the mode to Ask before you type.

Rating Method AI answers

Under the most recent Method AI answer, you'll see a thumbs up and a thumbs down. Use them to let the Method AI team know whether an answer helped. They're available in Runtime AI, Builder AI, and Action Editor AI.

  • Hover over a thumb to see its label: Good response or Needs improvement.

  • Click either thumb to open the Share feedback window.

  • Add a comment if you like. Comments are optional.

  • Click Submit to send your feedback. Cancel or the X closes the window without sending anything.

  • To change your rating, click the other thumb. A thumb stays filled after you submit.

Best practices when using AI

  • Check the result, not the message.
    Look at the screen or the list of steps to confirm the change.

  • Wait for it to finish.
    Most requests take 20 seconds to a minute. Bigger ones can take 2–3 minutes. If you see “There was an error processing your request”, send the same request again.

  • Pick the mode first.
    ​Build makes changes. Ask explains and changes nothing. Within the prompt menu is a dropdown where you can select Build or Ask.

  • One change per request.
    Use the words on your screen and say where. Check it before asking for the next thing.

  • Know how you'll get back.
    Undo works differently on each surface. Each surface tab has the steps.
