Communications: SMS

Configure the delivery of SMS from Method.

When setting up your communications in your Account Settings, you can select between Email Settings and SMS.

This article will cover SMS. For more information on SMS settings, see our article Communications: Email Settings.

Admin permission is required to access the Communications settings.


Navigate to Communication Preferences

To view your sent emails, you will find it in your communication activities.

  1. Click your Profile icon in the upper-right and then click Account Settings.

  2. Select Communication.

  3. Click SMS in the tab menu.


SMS Settings

By default, SMS delivery is disabled for your account. To enable it, check Enable SMS delivery in the SMS section.

Click View all SMS to see analytics on SMS sent.

Below that, you can choose between our free and paid SMS communication plans.

Free SMS communication package

Paid subscribers are allowed to send 100 free SMS per month. This will be reset on your billing period and is displayed under the Activity section.

NOTE: During your trial period with Method, you can only send up to 100 SMS recipients. If you have a trial QuickBooks account, you will not be able to send any SMS.

Paid SMS communication package

If you need to send more SMS, you can enable a paid tier for $0.01 per additional SMS after consuming your allocated free SMS. You must be subscribed to Method to enable this paid tier.

  • If you are above 100 SMS and do not check this box, no SMS past 100 will be sent for the month, nor will you be charged. This option is not automatically enabled.

  • If you are above 100 SMS and you do check this box, all SMS past 100 will be sent for the month, and you will only need to pay for the additional SMS past 100.

Activity

The Activity section shows you the communication activity for the current month. It will give an update on:

  1. When the next reset will occur for SMS.

  2. The total number of SMS sent.

  3. The total cost, if any, for communication messages past the free amount.

By clicking on SMS, you can see further details on your communication activity.


SMS Sent

The SMS Sent screen will list out all the SMS sent out.

  • Date delivered - Date SMS was sent

  • Delivery type - Type of delivery

  • Recipient, Sender - Standard information regarding SMS.

  • Subject line - Text of SMS sent

  • User - The Method user associated to the SMS.

  • Status - At this time, these are the statuses available:

    • Processing: Processing to be sent out.

    • Queued: Added to SMS queue.

    • Sent: Nearest upstream carrier accepted the SMS.

    • Delivered: Received by recipient.

    • Undelivered: SMS was not delivered. This can happen for many reasons, including carrier content filtering and the availability of recipient.

    • Failed: SMS failed to send. This can happen for many reasons, includign quque overflow, account suspensions, and media errors.

Retrying to send failed SMS

Clicking on the Retry failed messages button will ask if you wish to retry sending failed SMS from

  • the last 7 days

  • the last 14 days

Before doing this, make sure you have fixed the reason for the SMS failures.

Detailed views of SMS

Clicking on a row within the grid will bring up a detailed view of the SMS.

On this screen, you will be able to find:

  • ID: ID of the message.

  • To: The number the SMS is sent to.

  • From: This will show Method.

  • Status: The final status for the SMS.

  • User: The Method user that sent the SMS.

  • Delivery Server: This will show Method.

  • Events: A grid showing status flow for the SMS
