Dropdowns allows a user to choose from a unique list of options. In the below image, a user can select one option from the list of contacts.
The options for the dropdown is stored in another table. When configuring a dropdown component, it needs to be attached to an existing table.
The dropdown component has a number of unique properties, requiring setup unlike other objects.
Save data (mapped field)
The data from the dropdown can be either mapped to a dropdown field in the base table or attached directly to an existing table. Please see "Data Source and Mapped Fields".

|
Default state | The default state of the component (Regular/Hidden/Disabled). |
Dropdown Action Item
As best practice, all dropdowns within Method has a row at the top of the list to help manage the options.
In the above example, the Status dropdown has a row containing a link to create and edit Acitivity statuses.
In the Dropdown Action Item properties, you will need to configure:
Action item click | Selecting this will open the action editor to define what happens when the row is clicked. |
Action item label | The text displayed in this row |
đ Note: Normally, a Go To Screen action is put as an Action item click to navigate to a screen that lets you manage the records of the dropdown.
Dropdown subtitles
The display value, defined under Display, will be the main text to show within the options. In the below example, the dropdown is showing text from the Name field of the Contacts table.
However, you can add other fields from table to show below the main entry as a subtitle. In the below example, the Email and Phone fields have been added as subtitles.
Click the plus icon to add more columns from the table as subtitles.
Filters
Restrict what options show in the dropdown by adding a filter. For more information on filters, see "Filter Configurations".
Validation rules
The dropdown field only allows for one validation rule: Required. This means the dropdown cannot be empty for a successful save.
Events
The dropdown object has three events associated with it.
Change event | Triggered when the user changes the selected value in the dropdown. |
On focus event | Triggered when the user moves the input cursor into the dropdown field, whether by the mouse or tabbing. |
Lose focus event | Triggered when the user clicks off of the dropdown field. |
Accessing value of a dropdown component
When a user has chosen an option in the dropdown, they can clear the option with the x icon that appears.
The dropdown component holds the value of the field used to uniquely identify the record in the dropdown table. For example, if the
Contactstable is being used as a dropdown table, then itsRecord IDfield will be used to identify the record chosen in the dropdown.Having said that, when setting or getting the value of a dropdown, you do get two choices:
Dropdown - Display: This is the value of the field chosen as the Display value.
Dropdown - RecordID: The Record ID of the chosen option.
This value can be altered by using the Update Controls on Screen action. If set to a value that doesn't exist in the dropdown, the dropdown will not be updated.
