Anti-virus software may block the installatino of the Method Sync Engine

Updated over a year ago

Some users may experience an issue where their Norton Anti-Virus will prevent the install of the Method Sync Engine due to a security risk. This is likely a result of the Norton Auto-Protect feature blocking the setup.exe file from downloading and installing the necessary files.

Resolution

In order to install the sync engine in this environment, you’ll need to temporarily disable Norton Auto-Protect.

Once you have disabled the auto-protection, install the Method Sync Engine

When you are finished installing Method's sync engine, then you can re-enable Norton Auto-Protect.

Depending on your version of Norton software, the steps for doing this may vary. Please refer to your Norton documentation.

Allow Sync Engine In Norton Firewall

Depending on the Norton product, some users may experience sync engine connection issues due to the Norton Firewall settings. We recommend that you give permission to allow Method Integration Engine for use with QuickBooks in Program Control

Program Control is part of the Norton Firewall protection that controls how applications communicate over the network. The default setting is likely Auto, and the sync engine can potentially be blocked from connecting to the Method servers. If you are experiencing connection and sync issues, try allowing access for the Method Sync Engine

Depending on your version of Norton software, the steps for doing this may vary. Please refer to your Norton documentation.
